“I sit on hills like Lauryn, until the rain starts coming down the foreign…”

That shit cray.
Songs like this take me back to growing up in the 90s: Attending Walnut Creek Elementary. Watching Are You Afraid of The Dark at the Khmer parties with the other kids with the lights off. 96.7 KHFI before it became 96.7 KISSFM. When I actually enjoyed listening to the radio. Living at Santa Maria Apartments and then off Doc Holiday Trail. Buying Lucas at the ice cream truck. MTV Jams. VH1’s Pop Up Video. Thinking reppin’ gangs were cool (what was I thinking?). Growing up broke. Listening to freestyle music. No not rap freestyle, but freestyle cats like Stevie B, Lil Suzy, Debbie Debb. When it was cool to be all fuckin cholo/chola and shit. Wanting to grow up so fast so I could mimic my older cousins and go to clubs and parties. Making skits with the family camcorder. I miss those days.
Sooo good to the ear. The 90s man. I miss you.
ROFLMFAO!!!
So fucking glad someone finally decided to cover one of my favorite songs of all time! “I’m trying to prove to you, I think I’m ready for you, baby don’t fight my love, baby invite my love.” BOMB.

Luther sings like we breathe. Effortless. What I appreciate about his voice is that it’s so smooth and powerful. His diction is so clear that I can make out every word he sings, not like the singers nowadays. Artists now need to take note. RIP to one of the greats.

“Everywhere I go, every smile I see, I know you are there, smiling back at me…”
